The Position

As a Reinraum-Monitoring-System (RMS) / PI Automation Engineer you are in the Business Solutions area in the Pharma Engineering Solutions Drug Product circle of the Basel / Kaiseraugst location. The role is located in the Packaging, Storage, Logistics circle.

The Business Solutions area is responsible for the building and operational engineering, technical quality management and for a reliable troubleshooting and maintenance, including the operation of the required infrastructure. Furthermore, it is our responsibility to plan and implement innovative, cost-effective, and GMP-compliant investment projects. We support our management and business partners in biotechnological, chemical, and galenical production/packaging facilities, laboratory buildings, and administration buildings.

We offer internal customers/plant operators in the areas of research, development, launch, and market production as well as packaging, storage, and logistics, professional engineering services.

As a Reinraum-Monitoring System (RMS) / PI Automation Engineer, you are responsible for various areas, including the planning, realization, and operational engineering of the Reinraum-Monitoring System at the Kaiseraugst site. Furthermore, you support our business partners in the idea generation and concept creation of new, innovative solutions for the design of efficient production and monitoring processes. In the scope of operational engineering, you implement changes, problem solutions, and efficiency improvements in direct collaboration with the business partners.

Orders and projects are processed in self-organized specialist teams with a role-based working model without hierarchies. This requires a high degree of self-organization, foresight, and team spirit from you, as well as pronounced communication skills and offers you the opportunity to directly participate in shaping the working environment.

As an RMS / PI Automation Engineer in the Packaging, Storage, Logistics circle, you take care of existing and new automation systems that are integrated into the Roche infrastructure. The systems to be maintained have a very high degree of automation and are strongly interconnected or with higher-level IT systems.

Your Main Tasks:

• Operational engineering with the aim of ensuring the continuity of production and the Reinraum-Monitoring System at all times (80%)
• Continuous optimization of process plants and evaluating, testing, and recommending new technologies
• Leadership and management of automation projects in all project phases such as initiation, design, and realization (independently and with support from internal and external specialists) and proactive support of customers in the definition and initiation of investment projects
• Collaboration with internal business partners on projects, changes, and deviations including root-cause analyses
• Implementation of automation systems into the Roche infrastructure
• Vertical connections of automation systems to the Data Historian and MES systems
• Strategy and maintenance of the lifecycle of PC-based automation systems
• Support of our internal customers with technical questions as well as with authorities inspections

Who You Are

You have a solid basic education with a completed degree (FH/TU) in automation or computer science or the corresponding knowledge as well as at least 5 years of professional experience in automation or computer science, preferably in the pharmaceutical environment. You are familiar with the handling of investment projects and have experience in project management and operational engineering in the pharmaceutical environment.

• You have the technical expertise of network technology and automation software: AVEVA PI, Rotronic hardware and software solutions
• You have several years of experience as an operational engineer
• You have experience in the project environment or ideally first experiences in project management
• You have solid experience in the GMP and GAMP environment
• Ideally, you also know about EMSR planning and hardware
• You have experience in supplier management and are not afraid to take over the specialist construction management here, if necessary
• Team capability and very good communication- and coordination skills within the organization as well as an appropriate handling of stakeholders at all levels
• Willingness to work in an agile, self-organized working environment
• You have very good German and English language skills in speech and writing
• Willingness to work on-call duty 24/7
