What you will be doing:

This individual will be responsible for interfacing with other engineers in the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on utility transmission systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems, including stability (steady state & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, and other related studies. This person must be able to self-manage, with a strong conceptualization ability and strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills – including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams. Daily/weekly responsibilities can include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in both internal and external client meetings.
  • Transmission System modeling, steady-state load flows analysis (PSS/E, PSLF), and transient analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, etc.) for utility and/or developer clients.
  • Generation interconnection impact studies.
  • Generation interconnection application processing.
  • Perform detailed engineering analyses following standard methodology, criteria, and principles.
  • Actively seek out and encourage identification of new technologies and work practices to reduce operational costs and/or assist in the reduction of potential safety hazards.
  • Gather and distribute technology and market data to help evolve services, products, and documentation.
  • Research and understand the most recent policies, guidelines and programs around renewable energy, grid digitalization and other related topics.

What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET certified college or university
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical engineering system studies
  • 1+ year of experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, or other equivalent software packages

What we would like you to have:

  • Ability to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment
  • EIT or PE registration (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with the various Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, SPP
  • Steady-state software experience including PSS/E, PSLF, or PowerWorld
  • Transient analysis software experience including PSS/E Dynamics, PSCAD, or EMTP
  • Familiarity with short circuit software including ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP
  • Use of Python to automate functionality in power system modeling software
  • Extensive experience with planning, studies, and operations such as transient stability, baseline/injection studies, hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, dynamic/transient analysis, NERC MOD and TOP studies, or other relevant study types
  • Experience with renewable energy generation facility design, such as solar, wind, or battery storage
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills including technical report writing
