Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building and architecting large-scale web applications with Ruby on Rails.
• Deep, up-to-date expertise in Ruby on Rails, including the latest features, patterns, and best practices.
• Proven track record of leading technical transformations or platform modernization in production environments.
• Experience with modularization, service boundaries, and evolving complex Rails systems.
• Significant experience designing, building, testing, and operating distributed systems in a SaaS environment, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Experience with technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, MySQL, and modern observability and CI/CD tooling.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively across multiple engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and influence engineers at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a technical leader or architect on platform or infrastructure teams, especially in high-growth SaaS environments.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern Rails ecosystem gems.
• Strong understanding of domain-driven design and strategies for incremental modernization.
• Track record of enabling and supporting shared code ownership models.
• Passion for building maintainable, scalable systems and empowering teams to move fast with confidence.

The base salary range for this position is 172,000 - 289,000 USD. The range, which is subject to change based on primary work location, reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies and experience. PagerDuty operates a hybrid work model with offices in 8 major cities: Atlanta, Lisbon, London, San Francisco, Santiago, Sydney, Tokyo, and Toronto. While we offer flexibility within our established locations, we cannot employ candidates residing in:
