The Senior Ess Design Engineer (De) is a member of the Project Engineering Electronic Security Systems (Ess) team and a lead engineer to federal and non-federal design projects. The De will provide support through the design project life cycle from sales concept to design development, construction drawings to construction administration support. As a technical resource on a project team, you will be instrumental in the determination and execution of client and system requirements and will collaborate with support teams to bring your design to life.

The De will maintain both primary and supportive roles on complex Ess projects through direction of the Director of Ess Engineering. This role shapes the technical foundation and delivery quality of Diversified's Ess practice. Decisions made in this role define engineering standards, drive continuous improvement, and influence the company's ability to scale and maintain high-quality Ess solutions across regions.

The De will report directly to the Director of Ess Engineering.

What You'll Do:

  • Contributor for complex engagements and works directly with clients and the Design Engineering team to develop specifications, designs, budgets, timelines and manage expectations.
  • Ability to speak to Federal Security System standards such as Fips (Federal Information Processing Standards) and Ficam (Federal Identity, Credential, and Access Management).
  • Strong understanding and experience implementing design standards based around Ul2050 and Icd 705.
  • Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and coordination information to support the architecture, installation and planning of electronic security solutions.
  • Develop Ess project estimates and proposals.
  • Develop the Bill of Materials (Bom) and support documentation.
  • Develop detailed 30%, 60%, 90%, 100% Ifc, and/or Shop Drawings.
  • Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients.
  • De may have client interaction and contribute to the P and L performance.
  • Strong understanding of Internal and External project lifecycles.
  • The position bears the responsibility to develop long-lasting client partnerships & work with team members to maintain the account on all levels.
  • Maintains expertise in the industry through ongoing review of trade publications, participation in industry trade shows, seminars and educational forums.
  • Provides direction and counsel to junior personnel in engineering projects and guides issue resolution.
  • Attend appropriate manufacturer training, attend or lead lunch and learn and continue online education.
  • Represent Ess Engineering in enterprise-wide initiatives and strategic discussions related to delivery, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • This role is responsible for strategically partnering with subcontractors, manufacturers, and distributors.
  • This position will occasionally work directly with enterprise and strategic clientele to foster optimal relationships.
  • Occasional travel to client sites is required to resolve project escalations, provide customer consultation, and/or assist Field Engineering with commissioning efforts. 25% Travel.

What You'll Bring:

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or Equivalent

Years of Experience Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in Ess systems design, integration, or engineering required.
  • 2+ years of team leadership or engineering management experience.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Lenel, Ccure, Honeywell, Brivo, Milestone, Exacqvision, Eagle Eye, Axis, and Hanwha.
  • Experience with enterprise-level networking, IP-based Ess system architecture, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience managing multi-discipline technical teams and supporting regional or enterprise-scale project delivery.
  • Proven experience leading engineering efforts within Ess domains such as access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, project engineering processes, and field-to-office feedback loops.
  • Skilled in process improvement methodologies, technical governance, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage internal teams, vendors, and executive stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to interpret performance data, identify trends, and drive strategic improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and lead engineering teams in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and coordinating enterprise-level technology training.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a focus on operational efficiency and documentation quality.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Ts/Sci Clearance Strongly Preferred
  • Experience with Federal Security Systems, Information Technology, or related field preferred
  • Industry certifications in access control or video surveillance (e.g., Lenel Onguard, Milestone, etc.) are a plus.
