Services Developer

An employer in the Cincinnati, Ohio area is looking for a Services Developer for a remote, contract opportunity. The client is a large retailer and the Services Developer has an exciting opportunity to join at the infancy of the client's AI-enabled shopping experience. We are seeking an experienced services developer to design and maintain the service orchestration layer that powers intelligent, real-time, and AI-driven shopping experiences. This role is responsible for RESTful service development, ensuring scalability, reliability, and seamless integration between front-end applications, backend services, and AI-driven components.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain Node.js/TypeScript services using MVC architecture for RESTful and GraphQL APIs. Implement LLM-powered capabilities (e.g., conversational commerce, personalized recommendations) via APIs and SDKs for large language models.
• Enable real-time communication using WebSocket (WSS) for live updates and interactive workflows.
• Integrate agentic shopping flows, coordinating autonomous agents with backend systems.

Skills and Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of MVC architecture, RESTful services, and API orchestration patterns.
• Experience with real-time communication protocols (WebSocket, MQTT, or similar).
• Familiarity with LLM integration (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or similar APIs).
• Experience with microservices architecture and API gateways.
• Background in e-commerce platforms or agentic workflows.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Understanding of security best practices for distributed systems.
