Remote Marine Engineer

This position involves engineering mechanical systems, underwater systems, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), diver tools, and methods for ship and offshore structure construction, inspection, repair, and recovery by divers and ROVs. The work supports operational requirements for Navy and commercial customers. Primarily office-based, this role requires some offshore travel for testing and supporting offshore equipment. The engineer will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and will receive moderate supervision while increasingly leading projects and directing junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop systems and components for underwater use and supporting equipment, including ROVs, AUVs, diving systems, cofferdams, handling systems, and deck equipment.
  • Plan engineering and design work to meet customer requirements, ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform system engineering analysis under the guidance of senior engineers and lead the integration of subsystems and systems.
  • Engineer, test, troubleshoot, and document prototype subsystems and systems throughout their lifecycle, from conception to operation.
  • Provide technical leadership and management for projects, including client interface, technical team organization, design responsibility, and some fiscal oversight.
  • Participate in marketing, conferences, and bid and proposal activities.
  • Draft and assemble project documentation packages and proposals as assigned.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team environment on multiple projects, coordinating with engineers, resource managers, and program managers.
  • Supervise the work of engineers, CAD designers/draftspersons, and subcontractors, and review drawings and analyses performed by others.
  • Utilize basic mechanical analyses and equipment, providing expertise in at least two types of equipment.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with SolidWorks and structural engineering, including knowledge of structural theory.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis, mechanical design, and project management.
  • Experience in marine engineering, including welding, hydraulics, umbilicals, rigging, subsea systems, and naval architecture.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • BS degree in mechanical, structural, naval architecture, marine, or ocean engineering desired.
  • Minimum 8 years of applicable working experience in the marine industry.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks Simulation or similar FEA software.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance is desired.

  • This is a remote position.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
