CSU Spur is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Education Team as a CSU Spur Education Virtual Programs Support Facilitator. This individual will be part of a team delivering programs at the CSU Spur campus in Denver that inspire life-long learners to tackle global problems around food, water, and health, and will play a key role in the future of educational offerings at a new state-of-the art campus. The Education Virtual Programs Support Facilitator will support the CSU Spur vision and Education Team by executing the daily programmatic logistics and delivery necessary for successful educational experiences in Spur's Virtual Reality room and online virtual programs for pre-K-12 audiences, families, community partners, and general campus visitors. The individual in this role will support the technical needs for operating virtual reality and online virtual programs and support and mentor other staff, students, and volunteers working in virtual programs. This position is also responsible for delivering educational content in human and animal health as related to virtual offerings both in classroom program facilitation and exhibit interpretation, engaging with on site visitors, and collaborating with staff and volunteers to support the programmatic goals of the CSU Spur campus. This role will have a variable schedule, which may include monthly Second Saturdays at Spur events, other weekends, and could include some evenings. The individual will be in this role for 9 months and is requested to work up to 29.5 hours a week. This position is supervised by the CSU Spur Virtual Engagement Coordinator.

Program Areas of Interpretation: This position will be focused on, but not limited to, Spur's Virtual Reality Experience which centers around human and animal health. This position will be responsible for assisting guests in the virtual reality classroom. In the Vida building, the education team interprets live veterinary procedures, equine-assisted services, and equine rehabilitation therapy in partnership with Humane Colorado, the Temple Grandin Equine Center, and CSU's Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation program, providing opportunities for visitors and school groups to learn about animal and human health through active observation and engagement. There will be opportunity to support in Spur's other two buildings, which focus on the following content:

  • Food: In the Terra building, education staff will be working with partners on controlled agriculture, food systems education, urban gardening, nutrition education, and food development processes.
  • Water: In the Hydro building, educators will partner with Denver Water experts to provide experiences around water conservation, quality, and water systems. Programming will include the usage of an outdoor backyard garden space that connects to the South Platte River for riparian ecosystem programming.

This individual will learn new and innovative ways to provide educational programming through virtual reality, in person hands on interactive experiences, exhibit interpretation, indoor and outdoor learning opportunities, and live interpretation of on show surgical procedures, animal therapy, equine assisted services. Flexibility and an openness to learn and try new ideas and experiences is highly encouraged.

Position Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years' experience working with children, families, and multigenerational audiences, which may include working in schools, informal education, or customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking or public demonstrations.
  • Available to serve a weekly schedule, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with virtual reality or other virtual programming technologies.
  • Ability to communicate with program constituents in both Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Familiar with scientific concepts surrounding human health and anatomy, veterinary medicine, and equine sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and relevant ability with, cultural communities in urban and rural settings.
  • Primary availability is from 9 am to 2 pm to support school group engagement and the second Saturday of each month.

Essential Job Duties:

Duty/Responsibility:

  • Activate the virtual reality classroom with guests and school groups utilizing Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3S headsets.
  • Lead virtual programs to engage learners across Colorado.
  • Maintain classroom technology, spaces, materials, and educational facilities.
  • Lead program and classroom set up and clean up.
  • Lead onsite educational programs for multigenerational audiences, PreK-12th grade school groups, educators, and events.
  • Engage students and multigenerational visitors through exhibit interpretation, including interpreting surgical procedures, demonstrations, and scientific research happening at CSU Spur.
  • Utilize interpretation techniques to communicate effectively in noisy, crowded situations and adapt to unexpected situations.
  • Collaborate with on-site faculty, veterinary specialists, researchers, and partners to deliver program interpretation.
  • Participate in new staff training for virtual programs and virtual reality.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Occasional travel off site for events and school programs to represent CSU Spur.

  • Assist with updating lesson plans, curriculum, and content guides in the virtual reality classroom.
  • Assist with biofacts collection usage on the floor with guests and school groups.
  • Collaborate with the Virtual Engagement Coordinator and partners to develop and deliver new virtual reality offerings and program offerings.
  • Observe onsite field trip processes in the Virtual Reality room, and provide feedback and changes as needed.
  • Create programmatic connections between the three campus themes – food, water, and health.
