Senior Or Principal Software Engineer

As a Senior or Principal Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor in implementing customer requirements and ensuring the evolving needs of Red Hat OpenShift's rapidly growing customer base are met. You'll need to work with various engineering teams as well as product management and other key stakeholders across the product to identify and prioritize features for existing and upcoming releases. You will work proactively with the open source Kubernetes community and lead the implementation of important improvements from the project in our software product.

What you will do:

  • Play an active role in container and Kubernetes' cloud-provider projects and communities like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and OKD
  • Experience as an architect or technical lead to handle aspects such as functionality, performance, resilience, reuse, comprehensibility, scalability, security, technology constraints, and tradeoffs.
  • Create and guide new feature development; contribute to open source projects in Golang and Python.
  • Coordinate with team leads, architects, and other engineers on the design and architecture of our offerings
  • Be responsible for the quality of our offerings, participate in peer code reviews, continuous integration (CI), and respond to security threats
  • Design, design, and implement advanced computing, security, and networking solutions for OpenShift in the AWS cloud
  • Ability to provide an architecture viewpoint on the customer's solution architecture and design in the context of the product
  • Develop feature and bug fixes in upstream Kubernetes, midstream OKD, and downstream OpenShift within an agile team and as part of a global development organization.
  • Participate in the development of features and SIGs of core OpenShift and Kubernetes components for AWS integrations, such as OpenShift Installer, Hypershift, Cloud Credentials Operator (CCO), Cloud Controller Manager (CCM), Cluster API (CAPA), AWS Load Balancer Controller (LBC), etc
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in Cloud updates and AI frameworks, leveraging those in your day to day work
  • Proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.

What you will bring:

  • Expertise in Go (Golang) and a deep understanding of cloud-native development principles.
  • Expertise in a container ecosystem like Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift with a cloud provider integration (example, AWS, Azure or Google)
  • Deep AWS knowledge: EC2, VPC, Load Balancers, IAM, and CloudFormation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience of working with customers and partners to help them in their transformation journey as a product advocate would be advantageous
  • Experience with ROSA, EKS, or other managed Kubernetes services
  • Experience with other programming languages such as Bash or Python
