Job Function: Engineering | CAD Design

Job Summary: As a Designer in Engineering, your primary role is to create design models of components and assemblies utilizing CAD based tools. You need to understand what creates customer value in your own projects and project portfolio of own organization and works to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction according to incoming requests. Provides consulting services to business operations and customers. You will contribute your own ideas to identify, propose, and implement innovative technology development and solutions. It requires that you solve technical problems independently. It requires a continued awareness of state-of-art technology, as well as Dodge products and technologies, and identifies and understands technical drivers for projects in own area.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Proficiency

  • Participates as an individual contributor in the development team for new product design, product enhancements, and cost reduction modeling.
  • Create innovative ideas that would enhance the performance or reduce the cost to manufacture on assigned projects.
  • Demonstrates sound fundamental technical proficiency in own competence area.
  • Emphasis on critical thinking, root cause analysis, and problem solving.

2. Innovation & Creativity

  • Demonstrates an entrepreneurial innovative spirit to projects with own unique and creative ideas.
  • Understands the key business drivers and technology trends within the assigned product family in order to position Dodge in a leading technology position based on customer defined problem statements.

3. Projects, Processes & Tools

  • Demonstrates sound understanding of, and actively applies, Engineering processes and tools.
  • Examples include sound communication capabilities, use of 2D and 3D CAD tools, awareness of industry standards that would apply to the area of expertise.

4. Knowledge Transfer

  • Participates constructively in working teams.
  • Shares own technical/scientific knowledge in own projects and supports colleagues in applying processes and tools to ensure timely and high-quality results.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in MET, Engineering Graphics or similar degree.

• 5 years + experience Engineering, Manufacturing, or related technical experience.

• CAD experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for modeling, drawings and assemblies.

• Strong understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and tolerancing.

• Ability to read 2D prints and interpret data.

• Understanding of castings and machined parts.

• Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on critical thinking, root cause analysis and problem solving.

• Attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility.

• Ability to adapt and multi-task based on departmental needs and collaborates well with others and is a good team player.

• General understanding of basic project management skills.

• Entrepreneurial spirit with passion for new and changing ideas.

• Microsoft basic tools, Teams and Outlook experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of sitting and/or standing at a workstation.
  • Ability to type, reach, and grasp.
  • 0-5% travel to meet with clients or attend meetings (overnight travel as needed).
  • Able to carry, lift, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Reach, climb, crawl, walk.
  • Speak and meet in person or virtually to individuals and small groups.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create 2D & 3D models.
  • Create assembly models.
  • Process custom orders/approvals to accommodate customer needs.
  • Data management, properly maintain file storage with version controls as necessary.
  • Work directly with product engineers to ensure accuracy of models and drawings as well as maintaining revision controls as necessary.
  • Occasional travel for training and business team purposes.
  • Collaborate with other business functions, including manufacturing, supply chain, product management, and quality.
  • Create new part numbers and establish/maintain BOMs.
  • Support cost reduction and lean/continuous improvement projects.
  • Attendance at work is a necessary function of the role.
