Solution Design Engineer

Our Digital Technology (DT) Solutions Design and Networking team is seeking a Solution Design Engineer for an on-site role based in Richardson, TX. In this senior-level position, you will be responsible for designing and implementing cutting-edge, secure, air-gapped technology solutions in support of mission-critical programs. This role requires a high level of independence and technical expertise to ensure the successful design and execution of complex systems in a highly secure environment.

This position is 100% onsite in Richardson, TX, and requires a DoD Secret clearance. Top Secret Preferred. Occasional travel (up to 10%) may be required for site visits or project-related activities.

What you will do:

  • Design, deploy, and optimize secure technology solutions for air-gapped networks, focusing on network infrastructure, cybersecurity, and system design.
  • Lead the development of high-performance infrastructure solutions to meet mission-critical objectives.
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate secure technologies in regulated environments and ensure compliance with DoD standards (e.g., STIGs, NIST).
  • Oversee system implementation and integration, ensuring operational and security requirements are met.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on system design, troubleshooting, and secure deployments.
  • Create technical documentation, including system/network diagrams, design specs, and operational procedures.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges in classified environments.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends to enhance system effectiveness and security.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance prior to the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Expertise in system design, evaluating, selecting, and integrating enterprise solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of security controls for classified and air-gapped environments (encryption, network segmentation, secure communications).
  • In-depth experience with cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., NISPOM, DAAPM, NIST, NIAP, CNSSI 1253, JSIG).
  • Experience in Requirements Decomposition, Model-Based Systems Engineering, and ITIL Lifecycle.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and collaborate with clients and internal teams.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, including high-level diagrams and design specifications.
  • Strong understanding of network technologies (routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs) in secure environments.
  • Proven technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and delivering solutions aligned with business and security goals.
  • Familiarity with TOGAF methodology and its application in designing large-scale, secure systems.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), TOGAF, or equivalent).
  • Experience in designing solutions for classified and air-gapped networks, with a focus on system security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of high-availability architectures, disaster recovery, and system optimization for secure, mission-critical applications.
  • Familiarity with TOGAF certification or experience applying TOGAF principles to solution design and development.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and automation tools in a secure environment.
  • Experience with security monitoring, vulnerability management, and ensuring compliance within DoD-regulated environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
