Senior Systems Engineer

Raytheon is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to support the Transformation & Initiatives (T&I) department. The T&I department provides subject matter support focusing on driving affordability, process improvement, and cost-informed decision-making initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of systems engineering practices. This Senior Systems Engineer will join Affordability Engineering section within the T&I Department. This role supports affordability, Design-to-Unit Production Cost (DTUPC), and life cycle cost activities across munitions, radar, and sensor programs.

The Senior Systems Engineer is a seasoned professional contributor who works independently with limited oversight, supporting affordability efforts across planning, design, production, and sustainment phases, while collaborating with engineering, program management, manufacturing, and supply chain teams. This is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

  1. You will be working as part of the RMD Affordability Engineering team to support cost-informed engineering decisions across munitions, radar, and sensor programs. You will develop and apply affordability analysis techniques, cost modeling, and trade studies to support system affordability while meeting mission performance requirements.
  2. Support the affordability of various systems and products throughout their life cycle. In this role, you will contribute to affordability solutions as part of a cross-functional team, supporting pre-production, production, and sustainment affordability efforts. You will work closely with program management, systems engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain organizations to support the Raytheon Affordability Process.
  3. Support the development and maintenance of DTUPC, production cost, and life-cycle cost models aligned to program objectives.
  4. Perform and support affordability trade studies, cost assessments, and design-to-cost activities.
  5. Apply affordability and cost-performance trade study principles, including Cost as an Independent Variable (CAIV) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) concepts, in support of system and program decisions.
  6. Support supplier cost analysis, hardware cost estimate, and production learning assessments.
  7. Assist with proposal development, affordability inputs, and cost narratives.
  8. Communicate cost and affordability analysis results to engineering and program stakeholders.
  9. Provide documentation, improvement, and standardization of affordability processes, methods, and tools.
  10. Provide guidance or review support to junior engineers or analysts as needed.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with production environments and supply chain processes.
  • Familiarity with effector, radar, sensor, or munition systems.
  • Experience with developing, documenting, or supporting processes, methods, or tools.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following:
    • Production or life-cycle cost modeling.
    • Affordability or cost trade studies.
    • Design-to-cost or cost parametric modeling.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with affordability or cost engineering tools such as ACEIT, SEER, TruePlanning, or price analysis tools.
  • Experience supporting proposal development or program execution activities.
  • Familiarity with bills of material (BOMs), work breakdown structures (WBS), or manufacturing assemblies.
  • Familiarity with affordability analysis activities aligned with evolving DoD contracting approaches, including familiarity with Section 890 production contracting concepts.
  • Working knowledge of affordability trade studies, cost-informed decision-making, and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) concepts (CAIV familiarity a plus).
  • Working knowledge of data analytics with experience using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Python, R, or SQL.

What We Offer

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
