Senior Principal Infrastructure Engineer
Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Principal Infrastructure Engineer. This position is located onsite in Dulles, VA and requires an active TS security clearance with SCI eligibility.
Collins is managing a new program to integrate and deploy a battle management capability for the Navy's long range fires mission, centered on integrating moderate-to-high TRL software applications into cloud environments and on-prem hardware. The systems will ultimately deploy to Navy sites for customer-led test and evaluation. The program uses modern engineering methods including MBSE, DevSecOps and Agile Scrum at Scale.
We're seeking a Senior Principal Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and integrate cutting-edge data center environments and infrastructure solutions for distributed, mission-critical systems. In this hands-on role, you will play a critical part in supporting secure cloud, on-prem, and tactical shipboard deployments and delivering secure, scalable, and state-of-the-art environments to provide critical cutting-edge capabilities to the warfighter.
What You Will Do:
- Provide technical leadership in configuring, managing, and developing infrastructure and COTS components in systems supporting the warfighter
- Design, develop, and maintain secure, automated infrastructure solutions in both Windows and Linux environments.
- Deploy state-of-the-art environments supporting the warfighter using cutting-edge technologies.
- Utilize tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Helm, and Ansible to enhance operational capabilities.
- Support software tool customization and automation, including deployment of templates, dashboards, and scripts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., cyber, software, and systems engineers) to ensure compliance with security, performance, and deployment requirements.
- Oversee COTS/FOSS product installation, integration, and system deployment using automation frameworks.
- Maintain and support on-premise hardware infrastructure, including server hardware and associated systems.
- Administer container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and OpenShift.
- Maintain familiarity with classified cloud environments such as Commercial Cloud Services (C2S) to support operational needs.
- Update system documentation and communicate risks related to performance, availability, or security.
- Engage with the Navy customer and stakeholders at Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), sprint demos, and formal reviews such as Design Reviews.
- Some Local and CONUS travel will be required, opportunities for more are available if desired. Local travel for customer meetings (approximately 10%). Additional periodic CONUS travel to support integration and test may be required
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
- CompTIA Security+ certification required (CISSP preferred).
- Proficiency in Linux (RHEL) and Windows Server administration.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools (Ansible) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Helm).
- Familiarity with on-premise hardware infrastructure and classified cloud environments (e.g., C2S).
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued TS security clearance with SCI eligibility is required prior to start date. Existing TS/SCI highly desired.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum processes and enterprise application deployment.
- Experience with public cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
- Proficiency with pipeline tools such as Jira, Confluence, BitBucket, and Jenkins.
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash).
- Active TS/SCI
