Senior Principal Systems Engineer

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join the Precision Navigation (PNav) Systems and Software Department for Identify Friend or Foe (IFF) solutions for air defense, air control, and self-protection missions in airborne and ground applications. The Systems Engineering Test team is involved in all aspects of Systems Design and Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V). This team, based at Aberdeen Proving Ground, is responsible for supporting backend system engineering on multiple IFF product lines.

The ideal candidate should feel comfortable managing test teams, collaborating closely with other cross functional engineering disciplines, and must possess strong leadership and communication skills to motivate their team and advocate for quality throughout the lifecycle.

What Will You Do

  • Perform test lead duties for multiple programs on a product line (task planning, estimates, product owner, collect metrics, cost account manager)
  • Provide training, as needed, understand the scope, cost and schedule of the Program and define/delegate tasking for your team
  • Participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs), Change Control Boards (CCBs), and Project Gate Reviews
  • Integrate hardware and software into IFF systems, evaluating their functionality and impact
  • Develop and implement test plans, procedures, integration, dry run and verification documentation and perform/execute the testing
  • Identify and resolve hardware, software, and system issues through detailed data analysis and debugging
  • Communicate with teams and to the Integrated Product Team Leader (IPTL)
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve seamless integration and system functionality
  • Travel less than 20% to support mission execution at various locations including local RTX facilities, test sites, vendor facilities, and customer locations
  • Provide mentorship to team members at various career levels

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Proficient in Systems Integration & Qualification Activities: systems integration, requirements analysis, procedure development, test development, test execution and evaluation of results
  • Proficient with Digital Engineering Tools (DOORS, Cameo, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
  • Experience generating technical documentation and managing small projects
  • Experience with radio, radar or secondary radar systems
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Prior experience leading and conducting test events
  • Experience with DoD AIMS 03-1000 and AIMS 17-1000, Technical Standard for the ATCRBS/IFF/Mk IIA Electronics Identification and Military Implementation of Mode S
  • Experience with NATO STANAG 4193, Technical Characteristics of IFF Mk XIIA and Mk II Interrogators and Transponders
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • CORE Trained for driving process improvements
  • Active Secret Security Clearance

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
