Systems Engineer

The Battlefield Autonomy Tactical Management and Advanced Networking (BATMAN) team is looking for a dynamic systems engineer with a software background in support of our growing business within Networking and Gateway Solutions. The successful candidate will have a passion for learning and developing new technology and capabilities into systems solutions. This role will support the development of emerging technologies and differentiators into our Networking and Gateway solutions on key programs across multiple platforms.
The primary role will be working with a multi-discipline team of engineers on a new multi-domain heterogenous networking capability from the ground up. The candidate will be focused on taking existing and newly development technologies through the full systems development lifecycle. The successful candidate will be part of a distributed team composed of professionals from several disciplines and must have the ability to function well, both alone and with others, and have strong interpersonal skills. This position may require occasional travel (up to 10%).
What You Will Do
- Use systems engineering experience through all phases of development including requirements capture and analysis, architecture design, requirements allocation and traceability, system/subsystem integration, verification, system validation and life-cycle product support
- Mentor, train, and develop younger engineers with a focus on building bench depth in the technology domain
- Work in a Cameo Modeling Environment
- Write systems requirements and designing to those requirements, specifically for interfaces and translation services
- Lead integration and test tasks on complex multi-threaded microservice based software architectures
- Perform System/Subsystem Hardware and Software integration
- Design, build, and manage networking architectures in a lab based environment
- Work with microservice and containerized software architectures
- Develop test plans and cases and conducting system level performance and functional level testing
- Understand DoD open systems architecture and protocols
- Work across the business to identify, execute, and collaborate on opportunities to integrate Resilient Autonomous Networking capabilities into demonstratable software and systems solutions
- Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Estimate, track, and communicate cost, schedule, and risk in support of program earned value metrics
- Demonstrate ability to adapt decision-making style based on the situational circumstances
- Use personal experience and best practices to identify issues, potential problems, and risk
- Work in an agile development environment using agile toolsets such as JIRA, Confluence, Git, Docker, and others
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
- Experience leading projects through the full Systems V lifecycle
- Experience with standard full lifecycle software development practices and configuration management tools
- Experience defining interface definitions between application services
- Experience with the integration of complex networked systems
- Experience with Cameo
- Experience with design and deploying networking equipment and solutions, like SD-WAN, Satellite WAN links. Analyzing and debugging network topology, IP data flows and IP routing
- Working knowledge of setting up High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptor (HAIPE) solutions
- Experience working effectively in highly collaborative environments, a demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and lead technical efforts spanning multiple stakeholders and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers
- Experience in integrating and troubleshooting network connectivity issues (e.g. routing tables and general IP data flows)
Qualifications We Prefer
- Active or Existing Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance
- Familiarity with C++, Python, Java, and RUST
- Demonstrated experience with tools such as JIRA, Git, Subversion, Docker
- Experience with design and deploying networking equipment and solutions, like SD-WAN, Satellite WAN links. Analyzing and debugging network topology, IP data flows and IP routing
- Experience with executing Research and Development / Science and Technology Programs, delivering new technologies to internal and external customers is desired
- Familiarity with DevSecOps tools and techniques is a plus
- This position requires an individual that can perform with minimal direct supervisory support. As such the candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The ability to coordinate several complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules is a must
