Senior Principal Reliability Engineering
This position is for a Senior Principal Reliability Engineering professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. They train less experienced employees, apply expert knowledge to issues, are the customer reliability interface, and create common work practices.
Reliability Engineering is responsible for ensuring our products are safe, reliable, maintainable, and delivered on time. Reliability Engineering is a sub-function under our Systems Engineering role.
Our primary focus is new product development for Cargo Systems.
What You Will Do:
- Perform safety assessments in accordance with SAE ARP4761 and/or MIL-STD-882E including but not limited to:
- System Safety Program Plans (SSPP)
- Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA)
- Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA)
- System Safety Assessments (SSA)
- Fault Tree Analyses (FTA)
- Common Mode Analyses (CMA)
- Review, assess, and influence designs to optimize safety-related metrics to ensure designs incorporate the safety features required to ensure that all safety certification requirements are met.
- Perform Reliability Assessments for mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment in accordance with industry accepted practices including but not limited to:
- Reliability Program Plans (RPP)
- Reliability predictions to establish Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) estimates and component failure rates. These analyses may utilize industry standards and include field performance of similar equipment when applicable to increase accuracy of the assessment.
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- Contribute to defining specific Safety and Reliability design requirements based on derivation of the customer specification culminating in performing the RM&S assessment artifacts in accordance with engineering standard work.
- Perform Maintainability assessments and support Testability analyses.
- Support and/or lead Reliability related tests [Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) and Reliability Enhancement Test (RET)] including the development of test procedures and reports, overseeing the conduct of the test, leading failure review board meetings, and defining corrective actions.
- Investigate and implement improvements in current standard processes to improve efficiency and quality of both analyses and documentation.
- Support integration activities and reviews with internal and external customers.
- Perform (as required) bid and proposal activities for future programs.
- Provide technical direction across various stages of the new product development lifecycle
- Work effectively with various engineering teams to conduct data analysis and trending
- Communicate complex technical information to cross-functional audiences, including customers and management
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience
- Deep experience with reliability predictions
- Experience with engineering team management
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience and knowledge in RM&S Engineering, including processes, procedures and tools contained in SAE Aerospace Recommended Practices ARP 4754, ARP 4761, or military safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E
- Possess Analog and Digital Circuit Design Analysis and/or Mechanical Design Analysis skills
- Ability to manage multiple technical projects and customer requests
- Experience in gathering, analyzing and/or presenting data
- Experience using scripts to organize data for trending analysis
- Experience developing and providing technical presentations to audiences including internal and external stakeholders in the U.S. and internationally
- Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools
- Experience with MS Office tools for data analysis
- Proficiency in reliability modeling
- Ability to conduct and oversee reliability testing (accelerated life testing, degradation testing, HALT/HASS)
- Expertise in various reliability methodologies (e.g. FMEA, FMECA, FTA, RCA)
- Experience with managing an international team from various countries

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
