Factory Quality Engineer

Operations Quality has an opening for a Factory Quality Engineer who will interface with the factory teams supporting production, first article inspections, creating/maintaining work/inspection instructions, preparation for audits, and mentoring junior Quality Engineers.

The position is based in Tucson, AZ and requires onsite presence. Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. DoD Clearance: Secret.

What You Will Do:

  • Train, coach, and mentor quality engineers
  • Develop strong working relationships with the factory leadership, program leadership, and DCMA
  • Lead continuous improvement activities to help reach departmental and enterprise-wide goals
  • Support factory and program alignment meetings to ensure priorities are properly aligned
  • Verify product and process compliance with respect to contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and internal policies
  • Regularly generate and publish Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics
  • Facilitate and lead cross-functional team in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non-conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB)
  • Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non-conforming material and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary
  • Support work instruction development and maintenance activities by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and assuring configuration management
  • Development and maintenance of inspection instructions, ensuring inspection instructions meet the technical data package requirements and meet production needs
  • Regularly interface with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA)
  • Conduct status meetings with the factory support, factory management, hourly employees, and internal stakeholders to manage issue
  • Conduct weekly meetings to help reduce cost of poor quality and facilitate timely red rack dispositions

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years' experience
  • Manufacturing process experience with one of the following: (assembly, inspection, test)
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control
  • Experience with AS9145 - Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) clearance
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Existing DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Experience in supporting design and/or manufacturing processes
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams in auditing process and product/process improvements in the factory
  • Knowledge of EAC (estimate at complete), MRP (material resource planning), and AOP (Annual Operating Plan) to understand what drives factory decisions
  • Experience in Product/Process Failure Modes & Affects Analysis, Regression Analysis
  • Six Sigma and/or ASQ Certification
