Senior Principal Engineer, System Integrated Project Team Lead

Are you a systems thinking technical leader with a passion for solving complex engineering challenges in cutting-edge aerospace applications? Do you thrive at the intersection of cross-functional collaboration, technical depth, and strategic execution? We are seeking a highly driven and experienced Senior Principal Engineer to serve as the System Integrated Project Team (SIPT) Lead for the 787 Liquid Cooling Systems (LCS) including the Power Electronics Cooling System (PECS), Integrated Cooling System (ICS), and Forward Cargo Air Conditioning (FCAC). This is a unique opportunity for a systems leader who is ready to take ownership of a high-visibility program, lead technical teams, collaborate with internal and external partners, and shape the next generation of liquid cooling and refrigeration technologies for commercial aerospace.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team to drive creative, cross-functional solutions to technical issues, spanning Collins and supplier manufacturing, customer production environments, and airline fleet operations.
  • Own the engineering execution of the 787 PECS, ICS, and FCAC systems across the full product lifecycle from design and integration through to in-service support.
  • Become an expert in system architecture, performance, and operation of all 787 Liquid Cooling subsystems.
  • Drive system reliability improvements, partnering with Product Line leadership to identify, prioritize, and resolve root causes of in-service issues.
  • Coordinate and execute supplier transitions, collaborating across supply chain, customer engineering, and operations to meet program objectives.
  • Lead system-level troubleshooting, including root cause investigations of fleet issues, working with internal teams and Boeing stakeholders.
  • Present technical findings and lead customer/executive briefings on high-visibility investigations and emerging risks.
  • Work closely with Service Engineering and Product Line teams to initiate and close out component-level quality and reliability investigations.
  • Assess and define requirements for Prognostic Health Management (PHM) analytics development across the PECS, ICS, and FCAC systems; establish priorities to support system health monitoring and predictive maintenance objectives.
  • Align engineering resources and set technical priorities to support cost reduction initiatives and modifications/upgrades targeting the PECS, ICS, and FCAC systems.
  • Review and disposition engineering changes before they are submitted to the 787 Chief Engineer, ensuring quality and technical soundness.
  • Mentor and coach early- and mid-career engineers, promoting systems thinking, technical excellence, and leadership development within the organization.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership at Collins and Boeing, keeping all stakeholders informed of risks, issues, and resolution plans.
  • Travel up to 20% is required, including visits to customer sites, supplier facilities, and internal Collins locations to support program execution and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
