The Senior Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will contribute to the production of highly sophisticated assemblies for Space and Sea applications, including heat exchangers, pumps, fans, and pressurized accumulators. This role involves driving innovation, ensuring manufacturability, and applying advanced engineering solutions to support life support and thermal control systems.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement mechanical manufacturing methods for hardware, ensuring their readiness and alignment with production goals
  • Author comprehensive manufacturing assembly documentation and design conceptual tooling to assist in high-quality hardware assembly used in Life support and Thermal control applications
  • Provide technical expertise to internal teams and external suppliers to ensure compliance with engineering and quality specifications
  • Lead and support failure investigations by determining root causes, implementing corrective actions, and managing non-conforming hardware to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop and document sequences for complex manufacturing operations, define equipment requirements, and optimize processes for assembly, disassembly, and repair to maximize efficiency and performance
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes and procedures adhere to applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) requirements and quality standards
  • Identify and implement changes to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and improve productivity using advanced knowledge of fabrication, tooling, assembly, and quality control standards
  • Prepare cost estimates, manage project schedules, and draft procedures, policies, and work instructions
  • Review design drawings and concepts, addressing potential producibility concerns, and provide recommendations for using advanced technology and materials
  • Collaborate effectively within an Integrated Product Development (IPD) Team and contribute in a cross-functional team environment
  • Present technical updates to senior leadership and contribute to initiatives such as CORE (Customer Oriented Results and Excellence), Process Certification, Lean Manufacturing, and Manufacturing Process Reviews
  • Promote and lead projects related to EH&S compliance and sustainability

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Proficiency or familiarity with Solumina
  • Proficiency or familiarity with CAD modeling/design software such as Creo
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, machining, welding, and brazing processes
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies and tools like Shainin Red X, DMAIC, Taguchi Design of Experiment, Ishikawa diagrams, and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems
  • Previous experience with Life Support and/or Thermal Control hardware is highly desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively engage with team members, suppliers, and senior leadership

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
