Senior Level Mechanical Engineer

The Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Strategic Communications Solutions (SCS) engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Level Mechanical Engineer that enjoys contributing to the analysis, design updates, and documentation of military airborne equipment such as racks and the secondary structure to mount them within a platform. This individual will provide structural analysis to the design groups as well as design inputs, changes, and considerations as required. This position will require working with other mechanical engineers to properly analyze, document, and report analysis findings to customers in the form of deliverable items that support downstream military airworthiness certification.

This is an ONSITE position located in Richardson, TX.
What You Will Do:
- Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.
- Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews. Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond.
- Work proactively with an integrated product team (IPT) to identify risks and opportunities.
- Coordinate with and contribute to design teams on designs to ensure robust design choices and compliance with program requirements for environmental needs, such as shock, vibration, and crash loading per MIL-STD-810 loads for fixed wing aircraft.
- Document results from analyses both for internal and external customers such that data can be easily referenced in the future or support customer airworthiness certification on military airborne platforms
- Participate in and lead investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks. Search for and identify root cause of issues.
- When not directly providing inputs via analysis, contribute to the design of equipment that incorporate custom machined/sheet metal parts with the selection of commercial off the shelf items as required.
- Contribute to testing activities to verify product requirements compliance and correlation to relevant analyses.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
- Ability to provide initial hand calculations for inform decisions on preliminary designs.
- Experience with finite element analysis software for structural considerations (ANSYS Mechanical or similar).
- Experience with the calculation and documentation of modal analysis, internal stress loading, fatigue, and margins of safety.
- Background in analysis and design of commercial industry standards and military electronics packaging form factors, chassis design, and electromechanical applications.
- Experience with 3D CAD software (Solidworks, Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar) and the ability to apply best practices with said tools.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Active possession of an active U.S. government issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.
- Practical knowledge of design and analysis considerations for specialty materials, such as honeycomb panels and composites.
- Practical experience in design and environmental (static and dynamic) mitigation for electronics packaging designs (enclosures and/or racks) with rigorous size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements.
- Can interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
- Knowledge of military standards such as MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, and MIL-STD-1472.
- Experience working with standard form factor industry standards such as EIA-310, ATR, or VITA.
- Hands-on experience designing to meet and qualifying products for rugged environments.
- Working knowledge of Jira driven development methods for hardware.
