Senior Mechanical Engineer

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a world leader in advanced communication systems and is responsible for providing systems to all branches of the US military. The Protected Communications Systems (PCS) Hardware Department within the Collins Mission Systems organization has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

The department is seeking motivated and driven mechanical engineers with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, analysis, integration and production support. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be a member of a multi-disciplinary Integrated Program Team (IPT) consisting of System, Hardware and Software Engineers. Your work can support development of next generation systems, design enhancements, upgrades for existing products, and transition to production efforts. Product areas can include circuit card assemblies, electronic packages, and reflector-type antennas for communications systems.

What You Will Do

  • Perform mechanical design, development, analysis and documentation of components and assemblies in accordance with system requirements
  • Provide support to production and suppliers during product integration
  • Interface with the broader organization to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges. This can include engineering managers, engineers, designers, and structural/thermal analysts, other disciplines, program management, suppliers, and external customers
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals
  • Support and participate in reviews and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Previous experience designing and developing hardware, ranging from concept definition through detailed design and transition to production or product support
  • Demonstrated background in mechanical design, product development, material selection, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with CAD design tools and associated product data management tools
  • Experience solving technically challenging problems within aggressive timelines
  • CAM/Work Package Manager Experience including: - Familiarity with core EVMS principles, including interpreting performance metrics (e.g., CPI, SPI) and understanding program baselines as they apply to work packages - Experience using EVMS-related tools such as Microsoft Project or similar systems for scheduling and cost management - Demonstrated ability to manage work packages or smaller-scale projects with accountability for cost and schedule performance - General understanding of EVMS compliance requirements related to work packages, with a focus on supporting program-level adherence
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
