Advanced Failure Analysis Engineer

Perform advanced failure analysis of Collins Aerospace products in our world-class Collins Aerospace Product Improvement Lab (PIL). Work individually and with other PIL team members to drive continuous improvement in aerospace design and manufacturing. What You Will Do:

  • Provide and develop technical leadership during investigative analysis of Collins Aerospace technology and products. Apply scientific theory and successfully exercise problem solving judgment while utilizing our laboratory's destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) capabilities including but not limited to:
  • Variable Pressure Scanning Electron Microscope
  • Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometer (EDX)
  • X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometer
  • Fourier Transform Infrared & RAMAN Spectrometer (FTIR)
  • Real-time Micro-focus X-ray / Digital Radiography (DR)
  • Computed Tomography X-ray Imaging (CT)
  • Optical Microscopy / Digital Imaging / Digital Microscope
  • Ultrasonic-Based Thickness Testing
  • Optical Coordinate Measuring System
  • Material Microstructure Interpretation & Fracture Analysis
  • Collaborate with other experienced metallurgical, electrical and NDT staff.
  • Determine failure root cause(s) and provide recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Capture investigation results and recommendations in high quality engineering reports.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to help engineers design and produce high quality, highly reliable aerospace sensors and systems.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Problem solver with a solid background in the electrical, chemical, metallurgical, mechanical, and physical sciences.
  • High energy, positive attitude, attention to detail, inventive – In-depth failure analysis is a research-based profession with the added factor of fast paced, urgent customer support (internal and external).
  • Hands on experience with destructive analysis tools and methods
