Principal Systems Engineer

As our next Principal Systems Engineer, you will take on a senior leadership role and leverage your extensive experience to oversee and drive the entire systems engineering process, from requirements development to system architecture, integration, and verification. You will be a key technical authority, providing strategic direction and mentorship to engineering teams while ensuring our aerospace and defense systems meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
What You Will Do:
- Lead the elicitation, analysis, and management of stakeholder needs and system-level requirements.
- Oversee the establishment of traceability across requirements, design, implementation, and test.
- Ensure thorough requirements validation with customers and regulatory agencies.
- Develop and approve advanced system concepts, architectures, and interface definitions.
- Lead and review trade studies and analysis of alternatives to optimize technical performance, cost, and schedule.
- Ensure design consistency and alignment with system requirements and mission objectives.
- Define and oversee verification and validation (V&V) strategies for system-level requirements.
- Supervise integration activities across subsystems, hardware, and software.
- Collaborate with test engineering to ensure comprehensive and effective system-level testing.
- Serve as the primary technical authority and interface between customers, program management, and engineering teams.
- Provide strategic technical guidance, mentorship, and decision support across multidisciplinary teams.
- Present system designs, status, and risks to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
- Identify, assess, and manage technical risks throughout the system lifecycle.
- Oversee configuration management, change control, and baseline maintenance.
- Ensure strict compliance with applicable standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead design reviews, milestone decisions, and readiness assessments.
- Support sustainment activities, upgrades, and technology insertions.
- Provide strategic technical inputs to proposals, cost estimates, and planning efforts.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- Active and transferable Top Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
- Three (3) years of experience in requirements development, system architecture, and integration at a senior level.
- Two (2) years of verification and validation (V&V) methodologies.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques.
- Certification in relevant industry standards (e.g., INCOSE CSEP).
- Extensive experience with risk management and configuration management processes.
- Prior experience leading large-scale projects or managing cross-functional teams.
- Proven track record of technical leadership and strategic collaboration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
