Principal Systems Engineer - Operational Expert

This position is within the Simulation Solutions and Services (SS&S) business area. SS&S develops and builds simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers, with the primary focus being the defense industry. SS&S Training Device products cover a range of complexity and include desktop trainers, part-task trainers, full-flight simulators, sophisticated maintenance training devices, high-fidelity weapon system trainers and virtual training devices. This position will directly support the E-2D trainer program which combines equipment and systems of high complexity and advanced technology. The training system deploys cutting edge high end visual technology to support high fidelity pilot training for dynamic distributed events with sites around the world. This position will play a critical role in ensuring that the training system is concurrent with the aircraft. This eventually ensures that the aircrew is proficient in their skills, thus resulting in an increased ability of the crew to safely conduct missions and a direct impact on the warfighter readiness.

This position is responsible for performing assignments requiring the installation and testing of Collins Aerospace Simulation and Training Devices. The primary functions are to direct or perform installation, operational checkout, and system testing both in-house and on-site as required in accordance with Collins Aerospace and customer requirements. Services are performed using Collins-approved methods and workmanship standards to ensure optimum equipment operation and customer satisfaction.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide technical support to field engineers, technicians and product support who diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and debug complex electro/mechanical equipment, computer systems, and/or complex software not related to information technology.
  • Installs, operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies equipment. Normally receives little instructions on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
  • Participates in determining objectives of assignment. Plans schedules and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives. Work is reviewed upon completion.
  • Identifies technical problems and issues, recommends technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution.
  • Involved in planning and preparing customer installation and testing. Prepares, provides approval and validation of product test procedures.
  • Reports design, reliability and maintenance problems or bugs to design engineering/software engineering.
  • Installs and tests software releases on fielded systems, including training local maintenance/operations personnel on new features included in the release.
  • This position will require a minimum of 25% travel.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance or higher is required prior to start date

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with US Navy E-2 as a NFO is HIGHLY preferred.
  • Experience with US Navy E-2 as a Pilot or Avionics Technician is HIGHLY preferred.
  • Currently holds a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance adjudicated with 24 months is HIGHLY preferred.
  • Experience with maintenance or flight operations of military aircraft
  • Experience as a military or commercial pilot

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD - 224,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
