Principal Software Safety Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal Software Safety Engineer to join us onsite in Marlborough, MA.

What You Will Do

  • Analyzing engineering software and/or firmware in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, and other relevant standards.
  • Working with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code.
  • Performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). This includes hardware and software safety related tasks.
  • Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through deployment to gain concurrence with software builds.
  • Assist with Software and/or Firmware analyses.
  • Participating in the execution of the Software System Safety Program.
  • Interfacing with various stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Assisting with the preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval.
  • Assisting with software safety technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process.
  • Managing System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives.
  • Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design.
  • Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 6 years experience Engineering/Other Technical Positions.
  • Experience developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
  • Experience performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
  • Experience interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering.
  • Experience managing System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives.

The salary range for this role is $101,000 USD - $203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
