Project Engineer

Joining Collins Aerospace isn't just about finding a job; it's about embarking on a journey to redefine the future of aerospace technology. We are seeking a highly motivated, technically driven Project Engineer with deep experience to lead critical initiatives focused on military gearbox and pump casting mitigations, product engineering, and supplier transitions. In this dynamic role, you will serve as a key liaison between cross-functional teams—including the Value Stream, project engineering, and casting technology—to ensure alignment and support of plant output. You will be responsible for identifying and managing risks, driving cost-saving opportunities, supporting supplier transitions, resolving technical inquiries, while maintaining rigorous quality standards and project profitability. Adaptive communication skills, technical proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, and the ability to coordinate complex engineering changes in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment are foundational for success in this role.

What You Will Do

  • Provide Project Engineering leadership for military gearbox and pump casting mitigations and transitions.
  • Identify, track, and manage mitigation plans for risks across military product lines.
  • Serve as a product engineering focal, liaising between the Value Stream, project teams, and casting technology/producibility as necessary to support plant output.
  • Resolve Supplier Requests for Information (SRIs) by providing clarifications and processing Change Requests (CRs).
  • Manage piece part supplier transitions.
  • Pursue cost saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
  • Consolidate and present plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project.
  • Support Quality investigations as necessary when piece-part issues affect product deliveries.
  • Verify internal processes are being executed to reduce the probability of engineering turn-backs.
  • Read and interpret drawings, provide mark ups, and coordinate drawing changes.
  • Confidently provide clear, concise communications with peers and Collins leadership.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Experience with casting manufacturing and mechanical hardware.
  • Proficiency in CREO, Siemens NX or similar CAD tools for casting models and markups.
  • Experience with casting simulation or modeling tools.
  • Hands-on experience in casting design and supplier engagement.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, quality systems and manufacturing process flow.
  • Familiarity with rotating components, housings and oil-wetted structures.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a production role.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across department and business units.
  • Excellent technical communication skills.
