Mechanical Engineer II

The Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer II to become a member of the Patriot Launching Station Integrated Product Team (IPT) as the Launcher Fording Test Lead. This role will be on-site and located in Portsmouth, RI.

What You Will Do

  1. Lead the planning and execution of vehicle fording validation and verification activities, including development of test fixtures and analysis of results to ensure system performance during water immersion and deep-water crossing events.
  2. Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  3. As a member of a design team you will help solve challenging technical issues and drive results through efficiently completing assigned design and support tasks.
  4. Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial builds, testing, transition to production, and production support
  5. Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
  6. Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions
  7. Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer duration travel assignments may be available but optional

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in selection of materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility, and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation and prevention.
  • Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), Tolerance Analysis, metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts)
  • Experience with CAD modeling and Engineering Documentation practices.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in the fording, development, production and testing of electronics systems. Specific knowledge of packaging electronic equipment to meet physical and environmental constraints is preferred
  • Experience with European commercial vehicle regulations and braking systems, including familiarity with ECE regulatory requirements and European ABS braking architectures.
  • Experience with PTC CREO and PDM
  • Experience managing financial and schedule performance of program level tasking
  • Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a cross functional team
  • Strong communication skillset with ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
