Software Engineering Manager

Solipsys Corporation, located in Fulton, MD, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies (RTX). We are currently looking for a talented Software Engineering Manager who is enthusiastic, hardworking, and proactive in writing and developing code using programming languages and related technologies such as Java, C++, Angular, GraphQL, REST, KafKa, and Typescript (among many others). The successful candidate will work in an exciting environment, directly contributing to the development of new software capabilities and products.

The Software Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Software Engineering and serve as a supervisor within the department. In this position, the candidate will also execute in direct technical leadership roles on various programs. The candidate will also be responsible for a group of software engineers working on various internal and external programs.

Solipsys is an industry leader in the development of integrated Network Centric Warfare solutions for both the Domestic and International DoD and this candidate will be engaged with exciting and innovative advancements in Multi-Sensor and Information Fusion, Networked Situational Awareness, and Visualization technologies.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop new software capabilities within the Solipsys Product Line using software programming languages such as Java, C++, TypeScript, etc.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills with ability to coordinate the activities of multiple engineers working on a wide range of programs, ensuring successful technical execution and delivery of solutions for the customer.
  • Be adept at communicating (verbal and written) with all levels within and outside the company, ability to prepare and deliver presentations/summaries which appropriately address the intended audience.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies to increase software development productivity and support strategic product development.
  • Empower engineering staff to excel by ensuring proper training, removing barriers, providing constructive feedback, as well as ensuring proper execution of organizational and department policies and procedures.
  • Support proposal development, including technical solution, price, and schedule content.
  • Ability to travel- up to 25%.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • 8 years experience with C++ and/or Java.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals: such as data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, information retrieval.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Direct hands on individual experience with GraphQL, REST, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Postgresql, Docker, Kubernetes, Angular, Typescript, HTML/CSS, among many other programming languages and related technologies.
  • Experience developing, assessing and validating complex mathematical solutions such as track filters, track correlation algorithms, and weapon engagement algorithms, for sensors and/or C2 programs.
  • Drive adoption of the best engineering practices, including the use of design patterns, CI/CD, code review and automated integration testing.
  • Experience with managing cyber security processes including vulnerability assessments.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic leadership style.
  • Background in hiring, onboarding, and building inclusive team culture.
  • Active Security clearance.

The salary range for this role is $101,000 - $203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
