Systems Engineer

Collins Aerospace's Power & Controls (P&C) business unit is seeking an innovative and results-driven Systems Engineer to lead the adoption and integration of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) across our programs. As part of the Digital Engineering organization, you will collaborate closely with product line engineering teams to design, develop, and implement MBSE capabilities that enhance P&C's product development processes and align with our business goals. Your leadership will drive the transformation toward a model-based approach—bridging technology, processes, and people to deliver smarter, more efficient engineering solutions.

In this key role, you will shape the strategic roadmap for MBSE adoption, promote best practices across engineering disciplines, and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration. You'll guide teams in the consistent application of MBSE principles, enabling digital continuity and accelerating product development. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of aerospace systems engineering while empowering the next generation of engineers within Power & Controls.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the creation and execution of the Digital Engineering MBSE roadmap, driving alignment across Power & Controls (P&C).
  • Define and develop critical MBSE capabilities to support programs and enhance product development efficiency.
  • Create and validate MBSE models, including stakeholder needs and requirements, as well as behavioral and structural diagrams.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures and standard work to ensure consistent and scalable MBSE implementation.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the Digital Product Lifecycle (DPLC) Technical Advisory Board, representing P&C's needs and strategic priorities.
  • Foster collaboration with product line systems engineers to ensure consistent MBSE practices and adoption across all development phases.
  • Coordinate MBSE capability development with other Collins Aerospace Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to promote enterprise-wide alignment.
  • Support the integration of MBSE tools with hardware design, analysis platforms, and the broader digital engineering ecosystem.
  • Lead tool and environment integrations, execute trade studies, and develop system interface descriptions to optimize workflows.
  • Explore and implement opportunities to improve connectivity between MBSE tools and digital thread solutions.
  • Mentor and train junior systems engineers, sharing best practices and technical guidance to grow MBSE expertise within P&C.
  • Support proposal and business development activities through the effective application of MBSE methodologies.
  • Travel up to 15% as needed to support program objectives and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer

  • 8+ years of systems engineering experience in a hardware-focused product development environment.
  • Proficiency in MBSE tools such as Cameo, Teamwork Cloud, and SysML modeling.
  • Familiarity or hands-on experience with requirements management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, such as DOORS, Jama, Polarion, Teamcenter, and Windchill.
  • Experience across the full product lifecycle, including Request for Proposal (RFP) response, requirements development, system design, integration, production transition, and field service support.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical or electrical design and analysis tools.
  • Strong ability to prepare and present technical concepts, project status, and risk assessments to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) or Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
  • Understanding of Agile and Waterfall product development lifecycles.
  • Experience or strong interest in Digital Thread and Integrated Digital Environment (IDE) processes, creation, usage, and best practices.
