Pratt & Whitney Summer Internship Program

Pratt & Whitney is looking to transform the future of flight—designing, building, and servicing engines unlike any the world has ever seen. We are seeking talented engineering candidates to join our summer internship program in the Materials & Processes Engineering and Mechanical Disciplines (MPE + MD) department.

During your internship, you could be responsible for engine component evaluation, materials and/or chemical process development, analyses, testing, and other support functions for both commercial and military jet engine applications. Specific tasks may include mechanical testing, structural analysis or structural software tool development, materials analysis, metallurgical or chemical analysis, inspection processes, or coating property analysis. Interns will document and analyze data/results, prepare reports and presentations, draw conclusions, and make recommendations based on experimental findings.

The program typically lasts 10-12 weeks and assignments are available in the areas of:

  • Materials development for aerospace alloys, coatings and polymers/composites
  • Materials and engine component analysis through electron microscopy and other scattering techniques
  • Process and analytical chemistry
  • Non-destructive evaluation
  • Mechanics of material and component behavior
  • Fatigue and fracture mechanics modeling
  • High cycle fatigue / vibrations analytical capabilities
  • System strength modeling
  • Materials property and process modeling
  • Material data analysis, statistics and applications to engine design

Engineering Interns at Pratt & Whitney work on challenging, meaningful, and impactful projects across our business. Our intern program seeks to help you develop an understanding of the aerospace industry and learn about our company and its operations.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Enrolled in a degree program in Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering/sciences field
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Candidate should have an interest in building a technical career in applied materials development and characterization
  • Experience in Microsoft Office tools
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in teams as both a leader and a participant

This position is classified as onsite. Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
