Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Structures And Dynamics Engineer II. In this role you should be able to develop and demonstrate familiarity with stress and dynamic analysis, and experimental methods in these disciplines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing structural and dynamic analyses of gas turbine engine power transfer components, including gearboxes, pumps, blowers and air turbine starters. The candidate will also be responsible for planning, conducting, and reporting results from dynamic tests supporting development, qualification, and field service issues for these products. Candidate will be expected to work on multiple tasks with a wide variety of project and RRCA teams.

This role is onsite in Rockford, IL.

What You Will Do

  • Perform structural analysis using a combination of hand calculations and finite element analysis using ANSYS, ABAQUS and Siemens NX (Unigraphics) CAD.
  • Perform structural dynamic analysis, including rotor dynamics, torsional system dynamic analysis, and environmental equivalence.
  • Perform dynamic testing, including vibration qualification, self-induced rotating dynamic surveys, modal response, and experimental stress testing.
  • Pursue a thorough understanding of the background and methodology of the analytical and test tools being used.
  • Work with outsourced vendors and component suppliers, reviewing analyses and test reports.
  • Readily share experiences and information in the spirit of cooperation and teamwork.

  • Develop familiarity with multiple different product line technologies.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with FFT analysis and digital processing skills.
  • Structural Dynamic testing and analysis experience.
  • ANSYS, ABAQUS and Siemens NX (Unigraphics) CAD proficiency.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
