Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer

Collins Aerospace's Global Engineering & Technology Center in Puerto Rico (GETC-PR) is looking for a technically experienced Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer like you, to analyze and design major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. You will also conduct solid structural and thermal analysis of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using FEA software.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. Candidate must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What you will do:

  • Perform strength, fatigue, and fracture analyses of Landing Gear structural components.
  • Strong understanding of failure modes including but not limited to Strength, Fatigue and Buckling.
  • Construct and analyze finite element structural models using ABAQUS and/or ANSYS software.
  • Construct beam "stick" models and generate internal loads using NASTRAN.
  • Perform preliminary sizing and detailed analysis of major structural components using classical hand analysis and FEA methods in support of preliminary design effort and formal drawing release.
  • Assist with preliminary design trade studies.
  • Prepare high quality detailed stress reports for customer review and MRB support.
  • Review drawings with other company disciplines and provide structures input.
  • Analyze structural repairs for landing gear and systems structural components.
  • Ensure compliance with established engineering methodologies.
  • Communicate and make technical presentations to internal and external customers.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Knowledge in CATIA, Siemens NX, Visio, SolidWorks software.
  • Knowledge in NX NASTRAN, ANSYS tools and/or ABAQUS FEA software.
  • Knowledge in MATHCAD, and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience interacting with Mechanical/Electrical Computer Aided Design Resources (MCAD and ECAD).
  • Experience interacting with configuration management (CM).
  • Knowledge and experience working Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Tolerance Stack up Calculation, Weight Analysis, etc.
  • Teamcenter (or other collaboration space) knowledge.
  • SAP knowledge is valuable.
  • Experience in Thermal Sciences is a plus.
  • EVMS experience and knowledge is a plus.
  • Project management /MS Project knowledge.
