Raytheon ELCAN designs various optical and opto-electronic systems, modules, and sub-modules operating in different wavebands, with particular emphasis on infrared and visible systems. We are a vertically integrated manufacturing facility, with research, design, procurement, and manufacturing teams pressing novel technologies in the Aerospace & Defense Markets.

Reporting to the Manager, Assembly & Test Engineering, the Co-op student will gain experience interfacing with all facets of ELCAN’s operations (Sales, Supply Chain, Design, and Manufacturing) throughout their 16 month placement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drafting mechanical and electrical schematics
  • Creating and maintaining required documentation
  • Devising and executing validation procedures for existing and new optical/electrical test equipment
  • Efficiently prioritize, organize, and execute on given tasks
  • Well-developed written and communication skills; interfacing with product development teams
  • Preparing reports and proficient in technical writing
  • Supporting active projects working with other team members
  • Opportunity to gain soldering and microcontroller programming experience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current enrollment in post-secondary education preferable with Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering background
  • Proficient user in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Proficient in creating and reading mechanical/electrical schematics
  • Hands on experience working with design software to create mechanical models, drawings, and assembly drawings; Autodesk Inventor experience preferred
  • Experience using mechanical test lab equipment to support execution of test plans
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter and can work independently towards task completion
  • Ability to be adaptive and take initiative
  • Work with a dynamic group of electrical, optical, mechanical designers
