Internship Opportunity In Modeling And Simulation

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world. The Integrated Solutions Modeling & Architecture (ISMA) Department supports customer focused mission modeling and simulation activities for all customer areas at Raytheon. Our teams develop, analyze, and create flexible integration solutions crossing all product areas such as sensors, effectors, command and control, logistics, and operations. They develop tools and methods to evaluate campaign, mission, and system level analysis and visualizations based on customer requirements.

What You Will Do

  • This is an onsite internship for modeling and simulation (Mod Sim) using our Python-based proprietary Mod Sim software. You will learn to support design, development, and utilization of medium-fidelity digital simulation software in advanced technical computing environments.
  • You will contribute to evaluating intern-level appropriate work across a wide range of intriguing problems to answer operational questions such as: What should the next military system-of-systems look like? What is the effectiveness of new technologies against large-force adversary and multiple threats? What counter-measures should be considered to increase efficiency and/or improve survivability, and what are the answers to the customer's operational performance questions? What numbers and costs get the best performance?
  • You will contribute to mission-level system modeling and data analysis activities to support new business, system-of-systems design, and operational impacts of new concepts of operations.
  • You will learn the skills which set apart this high performing team from other endeavors in the industry. You will collaborate with your team using inputs from program, external customers, or team experts. You will learn modeling & simulation principles and skills while working on projects across multiple military operational domains (aerospace, maritime, subsurface, land).
  • You will support and build Mod Sim software and analyze results to influence the product lifecycle.
  • You will develop and implement model-based solutions to support mission trade studies using mission level simulations to ensure they meet defined requirements and performance.
  • You will innovate and explore ideas which make a difference.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be a rising Junior by the start of Summer 2026 majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), or equivalent.
  • Academic experience of modeling and simulation, or related disciplines.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Specific majors: Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Operations Research, Math, Applied Math, Industrial Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is required.
  • Knowledge of the system engineering life-cycle model.
  • Completion of at least one course in data analysis and/or statistics.
  • Coursework or demonstrated experience in at least two of the following areas: Software development processes/object-oriented software design. Scripting languages such as Python, Shell or Perl. Numerical computing environments such as MATLAB. AI/ML and high-performance computing (HPC) grids.
  • Demonstrated desire to work with a high performing team.

What We Offer

  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At Raytheon we value: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
