The Air Launched Effectors Department is searching for a full time Mechanical Engineer II to assist a multi-discipline team working on the design, development and/or production support of products and subsystems, for the purpose of giving the U.S. Air Force and our allies an unmatched advantage across every mission phase. From long-range surveillance sensors to command and control, to advanced air and ground effectors, we provide the technology required to keep the air domain secure.

The primary work location will be on-site at the Raytheon Tucson office. Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.

The Mechanical Engineer II will conduct design, integration, testing and/or production support of mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure success.

What You Will Do

  • Design and develop various mechanical components
  • Perform first-order tolerance analyses
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Electrical, Structures, Thermal, Systems, Integration and Test
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings and documentation
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical support throughout the product design
  • Support testing and validation of designs, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
  • Contributing to finding solutions to a wide range of technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical subsystems
  • Supporting first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues
  • Performing mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements
  • Interfacing with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical issues

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Masters degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling CAD tools (modeling and drawing) such as Creo or equivalent

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Major: Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with hands-on hardware integration and troubleshooting
  • Experience in mechanical design

The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
