Job Title

Rakuten Group has almost 100 million customers in Japan and 1 billion customers around the world, and provides more than 70 services such as e-commerce, payment services, financial services, mobile, media, sports, etc. The AI Services Supervisory Department (AISSD) provides data-oriented solutions by leveraging data science and Rakuten group's data gathered from 70+ services. The department contributes to Rakuten's business units and Rakuten's business partners as well. We have the strategic vision "Rakuten as a data-driven membership company". AISSD has the mission to realize it. Among the AISSD, the AI & Data Consulting Department (AIDC) serves as a bridge between the business units and the development units. We propose data-driven solutions based on a deep understanding of the business and swiftly drives their implementation.

We are looking for talented people to perform Data Strategy Consultant which has the role to conduct AISSD's mission in front line. The position is expected to discuss with internal/external stakeholders to propose data-oriented solution for business growth, and to conduct multiple initiatives such as PoC & ad hoc analysis, solution development with Dev team etc. The position has opportunities to work in global culture with excellent employees joined around the world, and to experience Rakuten's unique initiatives based on the cutting-edge data science.

Role and Responsibility:

  • Propose initiatives for data/AI utilization to Rakuten's business units or external clients and launch their projects.
  • Drive initiatives for data/AI utilization and manage projects.
  • Report business contributions by data/AI utilization to Rakuten's business units or external clients.
  • Implement ad hoc analysis related to user attributes, purchasing, and behavior on the web and offline.
  • Drive system developments involving the system development department to standardize initiatives for data/AI utilization.

Business domain:

  • Commerce & Marketing: Driving data solution of Commerce Company of Rakuten Group (Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuma, Rakuten Fashion, etc.) by maximizing value of data.
  • Providing data-oriented solutions utilizing clients and Rakuten data for external customers, such as manufacturers, retailers, and local governments, through marketing actions such as ads and media.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Experience in data-oriented project(s) which applies data science to business.
  • Project management skill to handle mid-large size project organized by multiple departments.
  • Capability for problem solving, strategic thinking, hypothesis thinking
  • Business level communication both English and Japanese (TOEIC 800+)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a company or department which is specialized in data science or data analytics.
  • Technical skill to create a data model by programming language (python, SQL, etc.) and extract/calculate huge dataset to get outputs.
  • Work experience in a consulting firm.
  • Experience to conduct presentation(s) CxO class executives.
  • Capability to discuss implementation approach with Dev team to define a solution's specification.
