Quality Engineer Position
Join our team as a Quality Engineer in Saginaw MI. Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm. $22-26.00/hr depending on experience.
Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all quality inspections done by quality technicians are carried out in conformance with all inspection procedures/customer specifications, as well as assisting the quality manager with the maintenance of quality documents on the floor, PPAPs/APQP, internal audits (IATF16949, ISO14001, Core Tools, Supplier), and the implementation of corrective actions, both internal and external.
Their responsibilities include:
- Performing inspections according to all inspection procedures/customer specifications
- Documentation of results on appropriate paperwork
- First-Piece Inspection and Approval or Rejection prior to production run of all products
- Performing a re-inspection on parts after corrections/adjustments have been made
- Last-Piece Inspection after each production run has been completed
- Notifying Production Supervisor, Quality Manager, and/or Plant Manager if inspection failed
- Approval documented on appropriate paperwork and paperwork filed in appropriate area with corresponding part number
- Assisting with the PPAP/APQP processes for new parts/customers
- Ensuring that quality technicians are completing hourly floor inspections, including self.
- Ensuring that any defective parts/materials are properly contained/identified following the Non-Conforming Materials procedure
- Actively sorting, inspecting, and checking parts at a minimum of when needed, as directed by management staff, meeting all daily and weekly requirements
- Assisting with training, when directed, of new and existing employees
- Working closely with employees to ensure they are educated on the processes and what is expected from them regarding quality of products
- Supply the production department with any quality related information, necessary paperwork, and assist with any quality questions and/or concerns
- Assisting production department and participating with Continuous Improvement activities and training
Printing, validation, and usage of labels as appropriate, and in conformance to customer specific requirements
- Assisting with capability studies which include part inspections, evaluation of part quality, and evaluation of any statistical data necessary
- Recommendations to quality/production departments for modifications to existing procedures to achieve optimal quality performance regarding customer specifications, within the limits of equipment capability
- Performing product audits as scheduled
- Assisting in the creation and updating of all quality documents, such as Work Instructions, including technical writing ability
- Assisting in customer complaints and corrective actions
- Actively issuing (as needed) and checking that all active quality alerts/corrective actions are being adhered to
- Performing any and all other quality related duties as requested by the quality manager or any management staff
The Quality Engineer shall report to the Quality Manager. Knowledge and skills:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive manufacturing is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in quality control required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience Internal auditing to ISO / IATF standards.
- Experience in automotive manufacturing (PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, SPC, Gage R&R)
- Experience with ISO / IATF quality system standards
- IMDS system knowledge
- Excellent computer skills (Such as Microsoft Office, Windows, etc.) required
- Supervisory experience required. Able to work independently and proactively
- Experience in dealing directly with suppliers and customers
