Position Overview

Work in a fast-paced environment, participating on engineering teams designing, testing, integration, and development and support of the next generation of UxV and hyperspectral image-based remote sensing systems for the U.S. Military.

The Senior Systems engineer is responsible for logical and systematic transformation of customer requirements and needs into a total system solution using the best of practice processes and techniques. The candidate will be the primary technical interface with the customer on all processes involved in systems engineering.

They will be a hands-on person that will work closely with multi-disciplined integrated product teams consisting of program managers, software, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product's lifecycle including requirements development, design, verification/validation, deployment and sustainment. The position supports systems logistics and lifecycle management tasks, as well as various process improvement initiatives within the group.

The candidate will be capable of performing a wide range of systems engineering functions, including requirements management, verification and validation (V&V), and test engineering, using expert knowledge of systems engineering or systems engineering management processes to guide product development teams. Knowledge and experience in systems engineering is also desired in the following areas: mission requirements analysis, system hierarchy and specification tree development, functional analysis, systems integration, requirements flowdown and allocation, trade studies, system synthesis, configuration definition and management, risk analysis, and hazard analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Use Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and SysML to define and trace system design
  • Development of product design descriptions, requirements and system test documentation, safety analysis reports, and technical analyses against requirements
  • Support a system reliability program; gather and analyze reliability data
  • Manage key product performance factors at a system level
  • Verify and validate system and component performance to specifications
  • Support development of test fixtures to validate complex systems, subsystems, and components
  • Support hands-on integration troubleshooting at system and subsystem levels

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • At least five years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with fielded DOD systems and/or prior work in the field of robotics or imaging systems
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience working independently and managing priorities and tasks over multiple projects
  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and SysML using MagicDraw
  • Experience with requirements management and traceability
  • Experience with validation of complex systems
  • Experience with Military Standards, such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464
  • Familiar with test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, signal sources, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience with DOD, SAE, IEEE, and/or IPC standards
  • Experience with DOORS or an equivalent Requirement Management tool
  • Working knowledge of EE and/or ME CAD Tools (Altium, Creo, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Experience with software programming (C, C++ and/or C#)
  • Experience with sensor integration and signal conditioning
  • Experience with machine automation and/or integration with automotive or military vehicles
  • Experience in system reliability analysis using both calculated and measured data
  • Familiarity with CMMI Level 3 Processes
  • Experience designing test fixtures
  • Experience with Windchill and Windchill Quality Solutions
  • Familiar with Data Collection and Analysis tools

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this role is $110,550 - $135,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. QinetiQ US considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
