Engineer-Quality 2 Position Overview

The Quality Engineer 2 (Calibration/Pyrometry) will assist in managing the calibration and pyrometry programs. Responsibilities include providing technical and logistical support to production operations by ensuring equipment has the needed calibrated equipment. This role includes managing the calibration inventory, interacting with external calibration labs, internal/external customers and auditors and performing pyrometry certifications. Quality Engineer 2 (Calibration/Pyrometry) has fundamental skills and process knowledge and can perform routine work applying standard techniques and procedures on a deployed multi-functional team to ensure the quality system meets stakeholder requirements including technical compliance, adherence to production processes and standards, and business case (including quality, delivery, and cost). Supports implementation of "state of the art" processing technology as it applies to both materials and techniques for tooling, part fabrication and assembly.

Principal Accountabilities

Works under supervision from senior Quality Engineers and Quality Manager in a team environment. Skills should align with fundamental knowledge of calibration, pyrometry and related technical activities in a production environment:

  • Fundamental knowledge of Metrology and Pyrometry, and related standards requirements with aerospace or similar industry.
  • A member of team(s) that works from engineering requirements to assist operations in selecting the correct calibrated tool to perform a measurement.
  • Manages the calibration program, to include:
    1. Manage the calibration inventory database
    2. Recall of calibrated equipment to include sending out calibration due notices.
    3. Shipping and receiving of calibrated equipment to 3rd party calibration labs.
    4. Perform internal calibrations as needed.
    5. Schedule Onsite calibrations with 3rd party vendors.
    6. Assist in audits of the calibration program.
    7. Initiate Out of Tolerance investigations.
  • Management of the pyrometry program to include:
    1. Manage the pyrometry inventory database.
    2. Schedule and perform pyrometry certifications of autoclaves, ovens and freezers.
    3. Assist in audits of the pyrometry program.
  • Identifies and supports introduction of new technology in line with the assigned Program / Value Stream requirements.
  • Fundamental knowledge of applicable business & quality processes and procedures such as FAA, DoD, Export Control, ITAR, Nadcap, AS9100, ISO 17025, AMS2750 and customer contractual requirements.
  • May have limited understanding or exposure of Lean/Six Sigma Tools used to predict and improve process yield.
  • Supports senior engineers with customer and supplier technical topics and reviews as required.
  • Maintain positive team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as peers.
  • Other related duties as required due to changes in business processes or customer requirements.

Experience and Other Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder') per ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) guidelines.
  • This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship or a foreign person per ITAR.
  • Military PMEL school with 4+ years of related calibration experience or associate's degree in Metrology with 4+ years of related work experience.
  • Ability to understand, communicate and present basic technical information to an audience.
  • MS Office suite experience required, including expertise in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated and able to proactively recognize and prioritize business needs with guidance from others.
  • Prior experience in Pyrometry is preferred.
  • Experienced with RCCA problem solving principles and tools.
  • Develop advance solutions to routine technical problems.
  • Customer relationship experience.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
