Estimator / Project Coordinator – Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication

Location: Houston, TX 77018 Compensation: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour (DOE) Shift: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Position Overview: We are seeking a high-level technical professional with a background in Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication. This is not a general machine shop or structural steel role; it requires a deep understanding of the thin-gauge metal bending, shearing, and forming process. You will serve as the strategic link between initial customer inquiries, technical design support, and final production.

What You Will Do:

  • Sheet Metal Estimating: Develop highly accurate cost estimates for sheet metal projects (shearing, punching, laser cutting, and bending) using our ERP system.
  • Blueprint Analysis: Interpret complex technical drawings and sketches to calculate material yields, labor hours, and production timelines.
  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee specialized projects from the prototype stage through full production runs, ensuring precision tolerances are met.
  • Technical Consultation: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, negotiating project pricing and offering "value engineering" suggestions to optimize sheet metal designs.
  • Workflow Coordination: Collaborate with the shop floor and senior management to ensure production stays on schedule and meets quality standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Mandatory: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience specifically in a Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication environment. Experience in general machine shops, construction, or heavy metal building components will not be considered for this role.
  • Technical Proficiency: Must be an expert at reading and interpreting blueprints, specifically those involving bend allowances, k-factors, and flat-pattern layouts.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Working knowledge of sheet metal equipment capabilities, including CNC press brakes, lasers, and turrets.
  • ERP/Software Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel is required; experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is a major plus.
  • Communication: Strong negotiation skills and the ability to maintain professional alignment with high-touch industrial clients.
