Under general supervision, the Human Resources Assistant performs a variety of specialized administrative and clerical duties in support of the Human Resources Function. Employees in this job class maintain detailed employee data in HRIS and Payroll Systems, create and maintain confidential employee files, provide benefit and other information to employees, and process human resources transactions. This job requires general knowledge of Human Resources requirements, advanced administrative and organizational skills, the ability to administer specialized processes and to maintain detailed records and files.

Typical duties include supporting Human Resources Management by coordinating projects, assisting with recruiting, preparing reports, working on special events, processing final checks, and updating job listing information; assisting employees in person and over the telephone in understanding and utilizing human resources programs and services; entering a variety of detailed information to the human resources information and payroll processing systems; advising managers and employees regarding procedural or factual matters; processing background checks and new hire documentation; contacting sources to obtain missing or incorrect documents and data; administering FMLA/LOA process; providing reception services; maintaining active and terminated employee files; maintaining supply of new hire and employee benefit packages; administering vendor accounts; prescreening candidates and coordinating interviews; updating job postings; providing general administrative support; and performing other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include two to three years' experience providing skilled customer service and clerical support, preferably in Human Resources; ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests; effective written communication skills; computer literacy; human relations skills; and demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common sense skills.

Education requirements include an Associates degree, High School Diploma or GED, and a comparable combination of formal education and work experience will be considered.

Physical requirements include the ability to view computer screen/monitor, utilize keyboard, and answer phone/make calls.

Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise.
