Position Summary

The Operations Supervisor - Machining is responsible for managing all aspects of machining aerospace components for various flight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of producing accurate flight components enabling first article success, high quality and on time delivery of tight tolerance high value parts. This position will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe aerospace flight.

The position requires cooperation and interaction with other members of the management team, including, Purchasing, Maintenance, Contracts, Production Operations, as well as, customer and regulatory agency representatives. This role will report to the Plant Manager.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the machine shop and equipment
  • Responsible for establishing and supporting all plant safety initiatives
  • Implementing quality improvement activities
  • Plan and manage daily throughput and productivity metrics
  • Support design for manufacturing and provide job planning estimates
  • Maintain machine shop schedule to ensure meeting customer expectations
  • Collaborate with team members to address capacity and scheduling conflicts
  • Process improvement specifically to reduce setup times and machining times
  • Maintain configuration control on files and job records
  • Ensure all team members follow work instructions, quality requirements and processes
  • Provide continued training and skills development for team members, and mentor early career team member
  • Communicate with team members in all areas providing schedule status and updates
  • Maintain machine shop organization, safety and cleanliness
  • Create and drive 6s method to increase efficiency, improve production control, improve teamwork and better safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Experience

  • 5 years related experience and 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Experience with setup and operation of conventional, CNC mills and lathes
  • Excellent blue print reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard
  • Knowledge of proper cutter selection with appropriate materials
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer focus
  • A continuous improvement mindset
  • Clear understanding of production versus development environments
  • Fluent in use of precision hand tools
  • Familiar with use of personal computers
  • Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel alloys, and titanium
  • Tooling and fixture design
  • Knowledge CAD/CAM tools
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware
  • Knowledge and understanding of CMM programming/operation
  • Outside processing knowledge
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skill levels
  • Experience machining tight tolerance, high value components
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-motivation and ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates
