Classification: Full-Time

Summary: The Thrift Store Manager is a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual who will launch and manage Phase 1 of our new online thrift store, while also preparing for and overseeing retail thrift store operations. This role is responsible for all aspects of the resale operation, including item intake, sorting, pricing, photography, online listings, customer service, packaging, and shipping. As retail operations expand, the Manager will also oversee in-store merchandising, point-of-sale systems, staff and volunteer management, and customer engagement. The ideal candidate is organized, tech-savvy, and passionate about sustainability and second-hand retail, with strong leadership skills, initiative, and problem-solving ability. This role represents the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and PEDCO by upholding their values and ensuring the store reflects cultural pride, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Online Thrift Store (Phase 1):

  1. Receive, sort, and organize donated or acquired goods.
  2. Assess item condition, determine resale value, and price items accordingly.
  3. Photograph items clearly and professionally for online display.
  4. Write accurate, engaging product descriptions.
  5. Upload and manage product listings using the website/e-commerce platform.
  6. Package and ship sold items promptly.
  7. Maintain shipping records and inventory tracking systems.
  8. Respond to online customer inquiries and order issues.
  9. Provide quality service that reflects our mission and values.
  10. Identify and implement strategies to acquire inventory (e.g., donation drives, community events, partnerships, or bulk purchases).
  11. Collaborate with leadership to plan seasonal campaigns or targeted collection efforts.
  12. Build relationships with local organizations, businesses, and individuals to secure ongoing donations.
  13. Track key metrics such as inventory turnover, best-selling categories, and shipping costs.
  14. Provide regular updates on sales, inventory levels, and performance, suggesting areas of improvement.

Retail Thrift Store (Expansion):

  1. Oversee daily store operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, deposits, and register balancing.
  2. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers to ensure excellent customer service and operational efficiency.
  3. Design and maintain appealing in-store displays, merchandising layouts, and seasonal promotions.
  4. Ensure store environment is clean, safe, organized, and culturally respectful.
  5. Manage inventory lifecycle-intake, pricing, rotation, markdowns, and clearance.
  6. Analyze sales trends, monitor expenses, and work toward profit and budgetary goals.
  7. Handle customer concerns and returns in a professional, solution-focused manner.
  8. Coordinate donation intake, processing, and stocking for both online and in-store sales.
  9. Maintain compliance with safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  10. Assist with budgeting, purchasing supplies, and reporting financial performance.
  11. Represent Ponca Pathways at Tribal events and community initiatives.
  12. Uphold and represent the values of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and PEDCO.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 19 years of age or older.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. A college degree or five years of relevant experience as a manager of e-commerce, retail, resale, or warehouse operations.
  4. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  7. Proficiency with e-commerce platforms, POS systems, photography, and basic photo editing (or willingness to learn).
  8. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  9. Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  10. Successful completion of drug screen, motor vehicle/criminal background check, and customer reference.
  11. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
