The Sales Clerk position involves assisting customers, stocking shelves, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. The ideal candidate has great customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a 'Service Delivery Area' comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Handle cash, credit or check transactions with customers
- Scan goods and collect payments
- Ensure pricing is correct
- Issue change, receipts, refunds, or tickets
- Redeem coupons and save them
- Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change. Do paperwork.
- Make sales referrals, cross-sell products and introduce new ones
- Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information
- Bag items carefully
- Greet customers when entering or leaving the establishment
- Offer to carry out items
- Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas
- Sweep and mop the floor at night
- Clean cooler doors and any spills
- Wipe off carts
- Take out trash
- Clean bathrooms
- Mark down any products tossed due to spoilage
- Remove old sales tags put up new ones
- Make sure current ads are out and being distributed
- Help with truck
- Break down boxes and take out to garbage
- Stock shelves (rotate it)
- Face the product (pull it forward)
- Keep reports on transactions
- Process returns and check to see if items are damaged
- Answer customers' questions and get a manager if the answer does not solve the issue
- Bag, box or wrap packages
- Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction
Relationships and Authority:
This position has no supervisory authority.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Previous retail or grocery experience is a plus but not required
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Comfortable standing for long periods and working on your feet
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Basic math skills for handling cash and transactions
Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
