Software Engineer Mainframe Developer

As a Software Engineer within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Cleveland, OH. We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in ZOS Connect, COBOL-based systems, job scheduling tools, and modern software engineering practices. The ideal candidate will lead technical solution design, support modernization initiatives, mentor team members, and help advance enterprise capabilities through robust, scalable mainframe solutions.

Technical Development & Integration:

  • Build and expose REST APIs using ZOS Connect to integrate mainframe functionality with distributed platforms.
  • Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and related utilities.
  • Manage datasets and perform file processing using VSAM, IDCAMS, and mainframe dataset management tools.
  • Utilize utilities such as FILEAID, SORT, SAS, and Easytrieve to build tools, automate processes, and create data extracts.
  • Perform performance tuning, debugging, and problem resolution across mainframe applications.
  • Work with job scheduling tools such as IBM Workload Scheduler/TWS, Control-M, and CA-7.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Lead the technical design and development of complex solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to team members.
  • Conduct code reviews, testing reviews, and documentation assessments to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, architecture, QA, and operations.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $55,000.00 – $132,500.00Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
