How You'll Make An Impact

Our goal is to deliver smart, data-driven, personalised services that touch the lives of millions of customers globally. As a Senior Engineer - Data, you will play a crucial role in this journey. You'll be at the forefront of engineering sophisticated and large-scale data solutions and infrastructure, enabling us to analyse data effectively and make informed decisions.

Your contributions will be key in developing new data capabilities and services, and in enhancing our existing solutions and practices. What You'll Do

Work with teams throughout Xero to help create and enhance the solutions, infrastructure, and integrations required to bring Xero's data to life

Work with product and engineering teams to enable greater data literacy, and optimise performance, throughput and quality within their solutions

Demonstrates a focus on continual self improvement, across both the technical and business aspects of delivering high quality data platform engineering solutions

Work collaboratively with other members of the Data team. Participate in regular team rituals and working sessions to collectively do our best work

Be dedicated to automation, documentation, and collaboration at all stages of the engineering workflow, including improving existing solutions or proposing alternative solutions where applicable

Remain up to date with relevant technology changes and trends and continually grow knowledge of how they may benefit Xero

Help drive continuous improvements to data and engineering quality, standards, principles and procedures, including a consistent approach to how data quality is measured, monitored and reported

Proactively monitor solutions and drive problem management, troubleshooting and tuning

Support for what you build, responding to issues, incidents and service requests as part of the on-call team.

What You'll Bring With You

Critical competencies

Strong data and technical background demonstrating innovation, initiative and a passion for data

Confidence in collecting, collating and interpreting business requirements in order to produce quality outcomes

Possess robust problem solving skills

Can demonstrate analytical, development, problem solving and communication skills

Good time management with the ability to multitask, prioritise and deliver to schedule

Highly motivated and proactive nature, constantly looking at methods for improvement

Self-organising and diligent

Solution focused and has strong attention to detail

Experience working with Business and Product Owners to gather data requirements and provide solutions

Experience in

Solid practical experience in building data platforms including warehousing, analytics, data observability, data cataloging, visualization platforms, orchestration, ingestion eg: streaming, batch, and transformation. Preferably experienced with Snowflake, Kafka, Fivetran, Datahub, Monte Carlo, dbt, Prefect, and Tableau.

Understanding one or more software engineering and data life cycle

Clear and concise oral & written communication including technical documentation

Practitioner level skills in - large scale data integration and data management

Bachelor of Computer Science, or relevant qualification

Extensive experience with analysis, design, optimisation and development of database queries and ETL processes

Experience with cloud based technologies, infrastructure and databases preferably snowflake

Knowledge of data and platforms requirements for ML / AI use cases beneficial
