Systems Engineer (Exchange/Active Directory) Sme

Peraton is seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer (Exchange/Active Directory) Sme to support our enterprise infrastructure initiatives. This individual will lead the architecture, design, deployment, and ongoing operations of Microsoft AD and Exchange services, including VMware, Group Policy, Identity Federation, and associated authentication systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in designing and implementing complex Active Directory Forest and domain structures, including trusts, sites, and replication topologies to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, implement, manage scalable and secure on-premises and cloud hybrid Microsoft AD infrastructures and server operating systems.
  • Knowledgeable in creating, administering, and troubleshooting Group Policies (GPOs).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Exchange Server, including on-premises and hybrid configurations, as well as related technologies like Exchange Online and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues within enterprise environments.
  • Develop and execute PowerShell scripts for automating routine tasks and improving operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with other IT staff, users, and vendors to ensure seamless operations and user satisfaction.
  • Experience with data modeling, data dictionaries, metadata management, and data governance processes.
  • Knowledgeable of IT architecture principles, standards, and guidelines.
  • Experienced in leading and participating in information/data management projects.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implements solutions to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Document architecture, configurations, operational procedures, and support guides.
  • Provide mentoring and training to junior team members and IT support staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD; additional 4+ years in lieu of degree may be considered
  • Must have a current DoD 8570.1-M IAT Level III certification (i.e., SecurityX)
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required
  • Cloud, Automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) certificates/training may be required within 6 months of starting
  • Experience managing enterprise Active Directory environments.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
  • Proven experience with Active Directory, Exchange, Databases, and other systems and services
  • Proven experience in creating, administering, and troubleshooting Group Policies (GPOs)
  • Experience with Zero Trust principles and identity governance tools.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based service management and change control.
  • Understanding of both physical and virtual infrastructure hosting one or more Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, Solaris, UNIX, and/or AIX systems
  • Desired:

    • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate or similarProfessional-level Linux, VMware, Network, Storage, or Cloud certifications
    • Previous experience in regulated environments (e.g., financial, healthcare, or government)
    • ITIL Foundations certification

    Target Salary Range

    $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
