Supervisory Medical Support Assistant

The position is a Supervisory Medical Support Assistant within Surgical Care at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. The primary duties of the Supervisory MSA are to have full responsibility for supervising subordinate MSA team leader(s) and advanced MSAs who perform a variety of administrative support functions in connection with Veteran's outpatient visits, care, and treatments, while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery mode.

Responsibilities include planning and directing programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and having full supervisory responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor. The incumbent must possess strong communication and prioritization skills, and must be experienced in report preparation and composition utilizing various Microsoft Windows applications/programs.

Assignments at this level include assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the MSA's activities.

Basic Requirements include United States Citizenship and either six months of experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; one year above high school; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. English Language Proficiency is required in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j.
