Job Summary

Assist in monitoring students both in the learning support and special education classrooms, modeling, practicing and reinforcing academic and behavioral skills.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Reinforce, review, clarify and re-teach concepts introduced by the teacher to individual and small groups of students.
  2. Assist students with tasks that cannot be completed independently, and assist students with following directions including remaining on-task.
  3. Administer student assessments and provide applicable accommodations under the direction of the teacher.
  4. Maintain a working knowledge of students current areas of need, goals, and strategies that are outlined in the student's IEP.
  5. Monitor data including student test scores, class work, behavior, homework, etc.
  6. Read and/or adapt regular education classroom materials including tests and quizzes to meet the educational needs of students, as directed by the Learning Support Teacher.
  7. Utilize and implement positive behavioral interventions and supports as outlined in the student's IEP's.
  8. Perform other duties as directed by the Learning Support Teacher.

Qualifications

- Paraprofessional certification mandatory - Previous experience working with students with special needs preferred - Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code) - Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code) - Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994 - Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006 - Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Physical Demands

- Ability to reach above and below the waist - Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects - Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion - Considerable bending and twisting of the body required - Ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students and their assistive equipment or devices up to 50 lbs. - Some stooping and squatting required - Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs. - Ability to stand for long periods of time of the workday

- Visual acuity - Auditory acuity

- Typical classroom environment - Subject to inside environmental conditions

- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills - Must be able to work with students - Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented - Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
