Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an Experienced Design Engineer to support our Structures & Payloads Core Design Team located in Ridley Park, PA. The ideal candidate will have a background supporting military and/or aviation technical statements of work customers as well as experience in a production environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 5+ years of experience in Structural Design Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience working with multiple groups, teams or organizations in a quality/design environment for continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing Full-Size Determinant Assembly (FSDA) structures, including digital design and simulation, precision component fabrication knowledge, and parallel structure and subsystem assembly design experience.
  • Experience in Model Based Engineering/Digital Engineering applications and usage across engineering and production value streams
  • Experience in dimensional analysis/dimensional engineering applications, including creating and managing complex geometric models that ensure design accuracy, and experience applying the fundamentals of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T).
  • Experience working on a multi-disciplined team with interaction with suppliers and customers.
  • Experience in cross-functional leadership, collaborative problem solving, mediating, building lasting relationships, and proficiency in written and verbal technical communication
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing others
  • Experience using analytical, collaboration, communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in customer-facing, or equivalent, experience.
  • Experience in design processes and issue resolution
