The Technician, Central Service performs a wide array of duties to provide sterile instrumentation and trays to the Department of Surgery and other hospital departments. Works under the direction of the Sr. Technician for Central Services or Operating Room Management. The technician's essential job functions include decontaminating and inspecting surgical instruments, wearing protective attire, transporting equipment and supplies, maintaining equipment, inspecting instruments for debris and functionality, arranging instruments for sterilization, operating sterilizers, performing biological monitoring, organizing paperwork, cleaning case carts, and performing other duties as assigned.
Specialty functions include maintaining reusable linen inventory, conducting soiled pick-up rounds, conducting sterilization testing, and delivering additional trays and supplies to the operating room. The technician also performs transportation duties, including obtaining blood and transporting items across the hospital.
Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and strong communication skills. Preferred qualifications include one to three years of central service experience and CRCST or surgical technician background. License, certification, and clearances include CBSPD or HSPA certification, Act 81 compliance, and Act 34-PA criminal record check.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. The incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, and travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
